Biography

Former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere was appointed as Norwich's new first team coach on 23rd October 2024 replacing Narcis Pelach who had joined Stoke as manager.

Born in Stevenage and raised in Hitchin, he had a brief spell in Luton Town's youth programme before joining Arsenal's academy in October 2001 at the age of nine.At the age of 15, he was captaining the Under-16s and in 2007, he was given his first start in Arsenal's Under-18s. In February 2008 he made his debut for Arsenal reserves. He played a key role as Arsenal won the FA Youth Cup in 2008/09 scoring twice in the first leg of the final against Liverpool.

He made his full Arsenal debut against Blackburn in the Premer League in September 2008. At 16 years and 256 days, he became Arsenal's youngest ever debutant. Ten days later he scored his first Arsenal goal in a 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United in the League Cup. He went on to make 197 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 14 goals, in a career blighted by injury.

He made his England debut on 11th August 2010 as a substitute for Steven Gerrard against Hungary. He made 34 appearances for England, scoring twice. (both against Slovenia in June 2015).

He had loan spells to fellow Premier League sides Bolton in 2009/10 and Bournemouth in 2016/17.

As a player, Wilshere was known for his movement, vision, passing and combination play, as well as his leadership on the pitch. He was described by Arsène Wenger as having "Spanish technique, but an English heart."

With his contract ending in the summer of2018, he signed for West Ham on 9th July 2018 but only made 19 appearances due to injury.

On 18th January 2021 he returned to Bournemouth on a short-term contract. He was released at the end of the season having played 17 games and scoring twice.

He had a short spell in 2022 with Danish side AGF after a deal with Italian side Como fell through. Two days after AGF announced on 6 July 2022 that they would not renew his contract, he announced his retirement. Three days later he was appointed as head coach of Arsenal's Under-18s and led them to the FA Youth Cup final in his first season.
