It
was a day in which many of the season's promotion and relegation decisions
were made. In the Premiership, Steve Bruce's Birmingham were relegated when they could only draw 0-0 with Newcastle whilst Portmsouth won 2-1 at Wigan. This also meant that West Bromwich Albion (including Andy Johnson) were also relegated. In the Championship on Sunday, the only player with a Norwich connection to score was Rob Earnshaw whose late strike was not enough to help Norwich take any points from a home encounter with Wolves. Wolves' 2-1 win ensured they finished in sent place. Norwich finished ninth. In League One, Swindon (Alan Reeves, Jamie Cureton) were relegated to League Two after their 1-1 draw at Bristol City. Southend (Che Wilson, Spencer Prior, Mitchell Cole) guaranteed promotion after a 2-2 draw at Swansea. In League Two, John Deehan (Director of Football) and Colin Calderwood (Manager) celebrated as Northampton guaranteed promotion to League One. Rushden & Diamonds (Drewe Broughton, Magnus Okuonghae) returned to the Conference after losing 2-0 at Boston United. In the Conference, Mark Peters scored for Cambridge but they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge. In the Ridgeons League, two goals from Richard Woodrow against Needham Market secured the Ridgeons League trophy for Lowestoft who also fielded Greg Crane and had Craig Lewis on the substitutes bench. |
